Revolutionary War period. These fine pistols have two-stage barrels with swamped muzzles. Top 3 flats are engraved at breeches, left sides stamped "PRO / VED". Finely-engraved locks inscribed "Waters" in centers. Locks feature sliding half-cock tang safeties. Brass furniture, including sideplates, chased with military arms and flags. Pommels have grotesque mask caps. Trigger guard finials terminate in acorns. Silver wrist escutcheons have chased clamshells at tops and both are engraved with two crowns over a single crown. Walnut stocks with fine relief shells carved around barrel tangs. Horn ramrods with horn tips. CONDITION: Barrels cleaned and show some scattered brown staining, markings very good. Locks grey and in their original flintlock configurations, functioning properly throughout. Brass retains a mellowing patina and shows fairly heavy wear. Stocks shows scattered age cracks, marks from use and one forend tip of 2-1/2" professionally restored. A very nice pair.
