Manufactured in 1862 in standard configuration throughout. Lock has standard Tower 1862 marking and crown cipher without "VR" indicating manufacture for export. Marked on the belly of the stock with the furnisher "J. COOK & SON". Barrel is marked with standard British proofs. Marked with "JS / (anchor)" Confederate marking on stock near trigger guard tang. Left flat of stock opposite lock is marked "C2" in a crude single stamped fashion, possibly a Confederate inspector marking. Ramrod is marked "J.C." and bayonet lug is 3-digit numbered "(obfuscated) 23". Complete with an unmarked Enfield bayonet. CONDITION: Comparatively excellent to other known examples, with iron assemblies turned an untouched brown patina and brass assemblies a mellow patina. Stock shows signs of age and light handling marks, but no major signs of distress. Mechanically fine, with 2 crisp stops at half and full cock. Bore is lightly frosted with crisp rifling. An attractive example of a Confederate carbine in difficult to find condition.
