Measures 19" in diameter. Shows great age, in the early to mid-18th century style. Composed of two wide flat wood planks wrapped with brown leather and decorated with brass tack decorations of various sizes. Leather shows traces of tooled interlace work in circular patterns around designs. Leather retains on back with early rosehead nails around the perimeter. One strap retained by hand blacksmith-forged washers and rosehead nails; appears to be original, while the other strap may be later. CONDITION: Leather very good showing some wear to decoration and 6 missing tacks. Brass retains a brown mustard patina.Some cracking to leather around the back. Nails retain a heavy old patina. Back shows great age and planks appear to be very old and are very dry with a dark patina, showing some cracking and holes from a back lining perhaps. A rare item.
