For an example with similar form, see plate 60 on page 66 of "Scottish Swords and Dirks" by John Wallace. The blade is an original dirk blade. The straight tapered double-fullered blade has a single cutting edge. Knot-carved wood handle decorated with silver tacks throughout. The haunches have floral-engraved silver sidestraps. Slightly curved silver guard mount with thistle leaf engraving. Silver pommel cap and capstan. Perimeter of cap has a relief rope with engraved gadrooning. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with some pitting in fullers. Hilt very good. Handle very good. Silver mounts retain a pleasing pewter patina. A very nice example.
