For a similar example. see plat 66e on page 69 of "Scottish Swords and Dirks" by John Wallace. Circa 1780 with a modified blade marked on one side with crown over "GR / DRURY", originally from the British-made Highland Pattern basket hilted swords made by Drury for the 42nd Regiment. The spine has been scalloped as well. Brass guard and ferrule above lightly engraved. The haunches have brass straps engraved en suite. Brass pommel cap and capstan rivet. Wood handle carved with interlace and decorated with brass pins. CONDITION: Untouched. Blade retains a mostly dark patina with scattered heavy pitting. Brass mounts retain a brown mustard patina. Handle shows hairline age cracks, some high edge wear and some losses to brass pins. Sides of brass pommel cap show some cracks. A very nice dirk.
