Circa 1760-1780. For examples of similar form see plate 63 on page 67 and plate 66 on page 69 of "Scottish Swords and Dirks" by John Wallace. Straight tapered blade with deep short partial fullers and 6 - 1/4" false edge. Plain brass guard mount and side-straps over rounded haunches. Wood grip with relief interlace and carved studs scattered about. Brass pommel cap with brass washer. Complete with its original brown leather scabbard with brass mounts. Accessory knife and mount are absent. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with scattered light pitting, some nicks to edge. Brass mounts show some wear. Grip shows some wear and minor chips. Scabbard leather very good, bottom mount a later replacement.
