He was admitted as a Burgess of Stirling and a Freeman of the Incorporation of Hammermen in 1759. The convex-faced double-edged straight blade has three short fullers at the top on both sides. The front center bar of the hilt, above the blade and upside down, is marked "IG / S". Forward turned quillon. Classic mid-18th century basket hilt with fine scalloping and filing, pierced triangles and circles and a convex pommel cap with capstan. Shagreen-wrapped grip with twisted wire accents and Turk's head ferrules at both ends. CONDITION: Blade has been cleaned and has light pitting throughout, tip slightly rounded.
