Circa 1700-1725. For a nearly identical example of this hilt, see plate 27 on pages 38-39 of "Scottish Swords and Dirks" by John Wallace. Straight single-edged blade with three narrow fullers with "FERARA" marked on both sides. Basket of classic Glasgow form with scalloped panels with pierced arrowheads and circles. Scroll quillon. Shagreen wrapped grip with brass ferrules at both end and remnants of leather liner on both ends. CONDITION: Blade shows smoothed pitting throughout, markings show wear. Guard mostly cleaned to grey patina. Grip separated on bottom. Hilt tight to blade.
