Early 18th century. For another example of this hilt, see plate 1:29 in "Culloden: The Swords and the Sorrows", a book of this exhibition held between April 16 and September 20, 1996, to mark the Jacobite Rising of 1745 and the Battle of Culloden. The exhibit was at the Visitor Center on Drumiossie Moor. The single-edged blade has two partial fuller. Hilt with rounded branches and two distinct "S" designs. Panels have scalloped edges and pierced double circles merged with triangles, and scroll quillon. Domed pommel with deep flutes. Wood grip with tassel remnants at top. CONDITION: Blade tight to hilt., retains a pitted light grey patina, some nicks to edge and tip rounded. Pitted dark patina on hilt, one "S" a replacement. Grip smooth from wear with a couple age cracks.
