Proabably 3rd quarter of the 17th century. For an example with a nearly identical basket, see plate 20 on page 34 of "Scottish Swords and Dirks" by John Wallace. Double-edged straight broadsword blade, probably German. Blade marked on both sides with engraved running wolf and in fullers at top "ANDREA FERARA". Beak-nosed ribbon hilt pommel engraved on top with 4 pairs of lines. Wood grip. CONDITION: Blade has been cleaned and has scattered pitting, markings on right side are nearly obliterated. Hilt retains a grey patina and is heavily pitted throughout, some areas thin and showing some losses. Pommel retains a dark brown patina and has some pitting. Grip shows age cracks and some minor chipping, slightly loose.
