Circa 1735-50. Straight double-edged diamond-section blade marked deeply on short center flat with three "S"' stamps on both sides. Classic early to mid-18th century full basket with scalloped and chiseled panels with pierced heart designs and rounded branches. Scroll quillon. High domed pommel with deep gadrooning. Shagreen grip with twisted wire decoration and Turk's head knot ferrules. CONDITION: Blade retains a grey patina with some darker spotting, a few nicks to cutting edges. Hilt retains a pleasing dark brown patina and is tight to blade. Gripwrap and knots are more modern. A very attractive basket hilt.
