Die-struck brass, 4 3/8 x 3 3/16 inches, with paired attachment holes in corners. The second and more handsome version of cap plate for artillery regiments, this pattern seem to have only been used by the 3rd Artillery and was found at Sacketts Harbor, where a large element of the regiment was stationed during 1813. This is the most complete specimen of that plate pattern known. Described and illustrated in Campbell & O'Donnell (2004), p. 45. PROVENANCE: Duncan Campbell Coll. until 2009; Al Scipio Coll. until 2015; acquired from Dan Griffin, June 2015. CONDITION: Very good, although incomplete in lower left, as found; plate stabilized by Campbell with a backing of aluminum.
