Atkinson (1775-1861) specialized in military and genre subjects and his colored etchings of naval dress are among the most prized, as they are accurate depictions taken from life by a talented observer, rather than stereotypical caricatures of ‘Jack Tar’ as found in most of the popular prints and cartoons of the period. 2) [British Heavy Dragoon].
