A nice example of a French Model 1837 Naval Officer's sword. Plated blade with spear point tip and large and small fuller. Scattered areas of pitting. Blade exhibits an older polishing which has obscured the spine engraving. Hallmark on ricasso. Intricate brass guard, back strap and pommel. A fouled anchor is amid vine and leaf patterns in the guard with a dolphin’s head quillion. Excellent traces of gilding to hilt. Ebony horn grip is intact with no brass wire. The black leather scabbard is intact with heavy cast mounts that also exhibit excellent gilding. The throat features a fouled anchor with a small stud. The throat and middle mount have brass rings. The drag also features elegant motifs with little wear. The sword is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity that states the sword possibly descended from Napoleon's nephew. An attractive example nonetheless. CONDITION: Very good.
