According to the Hepburn book by Tom Rowe, this gun was manufactured in 1898. It is a number 3 sporting rifle with a No. 1 octagon to round barrel sporting a recessed crown. Under the barrel is a matching serial number, the caliber, an assembly number closest to breech and the initials EHT. We can find no reference to these initials. The forearm is the Schnabel type with ebony inset and matching serial number. The butt plate is the early S-curve steel sporting type. The walnut stock features a checkered round knob (pictured in book). Rifle features double set triggers. (working) The receiver is case color as is butt plate, trigger guard and lever. Barrel is blue with Remington legend on flat. The breech block is nitre blue as is hammer. Rifle has the 2" elevation medium staff Vernier tang sight. Front sight is the adjustable globe with spirit level. CONDITION: Excellent. The receiver retains about 90 % color. The screw heads are true and retain generous blue. The barrel retains 90% blue, thinning at muzzle with scattered light handling marks. Legend is sharp. Stock is excellent, sharp checkering , some minor impressions along with some denting at base. Forearm is in like condition. Action is crisp. Bore is bright. Beautiful rifle.
