Axel Peterson had a gun shop as early as 1881 at 1315 15th Street in Denver. During his lifetime, he became famous as a master barrel maker and gunsmith. By 1911, Axel W. Peterson teamed up with the equally famous George C. Schoyen and were in business together at 1335 Lawrence. Peterson’s match guns are still highly sought after. This rifle features an extra heavy full octagon barrel that has been lined to accept a .22 RF. His name and city are stamped on right side of barrel. The rear sight slot is empty. The front slot wears a globe. The left side of receiver has the Marlin legend. Rifle sports a tang sight. The thumb loop lever protects the double set triggers. (working but hammer spring feels weak) The walnut stock was customized as well with a small pistol grip and wearing a nickel plated Swiss butt plate. The custom walnut forearm has a slight Schnauble . The muzzle is turned 1/2" CONDITION: Fine. The bore is well defined but slightly frosted. The stocks show some handling and have been lacquered. The frame case colors are now a dull grey. The barrel retains majority of blue with scattered handling marks. Great heavy bench rifle by one of the most famous of all western 19th century gunsmiths.
