The Model 54 was Stevens best quality rifle and featured their highest quality engraving. Built on the robust No. 44 1/2 frame, the No. 54 was manufactured between 1897-1916. This stunning rifle features oval vignettes on both sides with deer surrounded by sea shell type scroll and is case color. The heavy octagon to round barrel has the Stevens legend on barrel flat. The front of the action under the forearm is marked "54" and "EX" along with an "O". The lever is of the No. 54 style with the two walnut panels. The front sight is globe type with no rear sight cut and now sports scope blocks with a Lyman Targetspot 3/4" tube scope. Action sports double set triggers (working) The tang has an intricate mounted sight but cannot be used with scope in place. The beautifully grained walnut stock features fine hand cut checkering, straight grip, roll over cheek piece with perch belly contour and wears a heavy iron Swiss butt plate. The matching forearm sports a palm rest with matching serial numbers on both. This matching number is on the base of barrel as well. CONDITION: Excellent. The receiver still shows some light case color. The breech block retains majority of nitre blue. The barrel retains nearly all its blue with some handling marks and light high edge wear. The stocks are excellent with sharp checkering and minor impressions. Action works correctly. Bore is bright.
