Receiver manufactured in early 1943 as part of the first block of 03-A4 production and fitted with a 4-groove "6-43" dated Remington barrel. No front or rear sight are fitted, instead rifle is mounted with a Weaver 330 M8 scope with tapered post and line reticle on Redfield base. Although the Weaver 330C (M73B1) scope was standard, limited quantities of 300 M8 scopes were also procured for 03-A4 sniper rifles. Receiver is finished in attractive green parkerization and has correctly spaced markings, allowing them to be read even when the scope is mounted. Blued "R" marked Remington bolt. Correct Springfield production walnut C stock with blued "R" marked mounts. Stock is marked on the left with the ordnance crossed cannons, Frank J. Atwood "FJA" inspection stamp, boxed "S.A." proof. A encircled "P" firing proof present on the wrist. CONDITION: Fine. Barrel shows some high edge wear and a few marks towards the muzzle. Receiver retains nearly all of its parkerized finish with some light wear. Bolt shows some mild evidence of use. Stock is very good as lightly cleaned with some scattered marks. Bands and bottom metal retain nearly all of their blue with expected edgewear and handling. Fine bore. ME approximately 1.5. TE of 2. Fine mechanics. Scope shows some finish thinning with minor spots of loss. Glass is clear for its age. A nice example of a World War II sniper.
