4th model carbine manufactured circa 1890, one of approximately 300 manufactured that year. Classic carbine length barrel with faint 2-line address and full length magazine tube retained by a pair of barrel bands. Iron barleycorn front sight and "1873" ladder rear. Centerfire conversion bolt. It is known 1,020 centerfire carbines were assembled circa 1891 in the 167000-169000 serial number range and shipped to Brazil. Brass frame features attractive period flowing arabesque scroll engraving over punchdot backgrounds with dot and line borders, as well as an empty presentation scroll on the left side. Replacement 2-piece walnut stocks. Iron tool trap butt plate with light engraving at the heel. CONDITION: Good. Iron components display a gunmetal gray patina with some cleaned, older oxidation spotting. Receiver has a rich mellow patina, the engraving somewhat darkened creating attractive contrast. The stocks are very good with some scattered impressions. Several screws are replacements. Dark, abraded bore. Good mechanics, no extractor present. A very handsome '66 saddle ring carbine.
