Originally manufactured in July 1958 per the barrel date code. Rifle is fitted with a blued medium heavy tapered target barrel with sight blocks and precision Redfield Olympic sights. Single shot 40-X action with "U.S.M.C. PROPERTY" marking. Heavy walnut target stock with forend accessory rail and Pachmayr recoil pad. According to included correspondence with the awardee, this rifle listed by serial number was presented as a Secretary of the Navy Trophy Rifle to Gunnery Sergeant Brian H. Zins for his high score at the National Championships. GySgt. Zins began his service with the Marine Corps in 1988 as an MP, receiving "Top Gun" honors for his qualification score with the 1911 at Military Police School. He began competing in matches in 1989 and received numerous medals and awards through his retirement from the USMC in 2008, including a record breaking 7 NRA National Pistol Championship titles. In 2010, Zins placed 2nd on the History Channel reality TV program "Top Shot", returning in 2012 to participate in "Top Shot All-Stars". CONDITION: Fine. Nearly all of the original blue is retained with some light muzzle wear, freckling on the floor plate, and scattered handling marks. Stock has a few scant impressions. Very good, bright bore. Fine mechanics.
