Per the included Colt Archives letter, this pistol shipped as a .45 ACP with a 5" barrel, blue finish, ivory stocks and factory engraving. It shipped to the Loan Account, Tritch Hardware Company, Denver, Colorado, October 16th, 1925, on Factory Order 10081/2 in a shipment of 1. There are further notes that the gun was subsequently purchased by Tritch Hardware of February 10th, 1926. The configuration remains the same, with half moon front sight, U notch flat top rear sight, checkered spurred hammer, checkered small parts, long A1 grip safety, arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop, and smooth ivory grips with excellent color and grain. The ivory grips are replacements from slightly after the period, signed on the interior of the right scale "F. L. Belmay / 1948". Typical Colt subinspector marks and proofs throughout, with distension still visible from the application of the stamp. The engraving is approximately B class coverage of long, flowing scrollwork on a striated ground, with floral elements incorporated throughout. Comparing the engraving and patterns to signed examples, the work is the work of William Gough or his shop. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the original factory bluing throughout, with some superficial marks from handling and manufacture. Some very minor silvering at the trigger where it reciprocates into the frame and at the sharpest edges. Grips are excellent with no cracks or chips. Mechanically fine, bore excellent with bright, strong rifling. Housed in an MTM Case-Gard plastic case to protect the gun. An absolutely outstanding factory engraved gun from the interwar period, when Colt was producing some of their best work.
