Cased Holland & Holland Royal No. 2 Grade 12 bore side by side ejector gun with two sets of 28” barrels. Second set of barrels marked “C” with gold inlay on the rib. English stock, single trigger on a square bar action, 7 pin locks, auto-safety, Southgate ejectors, plain game rib with a single brass front bead on both sets of barrels, checkered butt, gold inlaid “SAFE” ahead of the safety catch, gold inlaid cocking indicators, maker’s name on both locks, “Royal Hammerless Ejector” model designation on the underside, “No. 2 Grade” designation on the watertable, initialed silver oval, drop points, and a Deeley forend release. The gun is housed in a leather case with maker’s label, charge sheet, snap caps, cleaning rods, jag, brass brush, and a mop. Proofed to 3 ¼ tons per square inch in both sets of barrels. The Royal No. 2 model later became Holland’s “B Grade” sidelock and eventually became the “Badminton” model in the 1930s. Embellished with Holland’s typical No. 2 or B Grade scroll engraving with about 70% coverage. Both action and furniture in silver finish. Well figured walnut stock. CONDITION: Excellent overall. Barrels retain most of their bluing. Excellent bores in both sets of barrels. The condition of the barrels indicates that they are replacements by the maker. Engraving remains crisp other than on the bottom strap where it has softened. Wood and checkering on both the stock and the forend in excellent condition other than a few minor scratches on the stock and a small inlet repair on the forend which is only visible with the forend off. Both barrels are slightly off face. Top lever slightly left of center and ejectors in time. From the collection of noted African hunter and collector Richard Cousins.
