A.J. Savage received a contract in 1918 to produce 100,000 1911s, but the war ended and the contract was suspended before any pistols were delivered. They delivered some small parts, and a number of slides were accepted for use in rebuild programs. Left side with three line Colt patent information with Savage flaming bomb behind, right side with model designation. U notch rear sight recontoured to a square notch, restaked half moon front sight. Barrel with "P" on left lug, "F" on right. Frame with US property mark, serial number, and model designation on right side, right side trigger guard with "O" subinspector, left side with "P" proof at magazine release, "VP" and "4" proofs on left side trigger guard, and boxed Broberg inspection under slide release, double stamped. Small parts comprise checkered spurred hammer, serrated slide release, thick tab safety, short checkered trigger, checkered magazine release, long A1 grip safety, and arched knurled mainspring housing with lanyard loop. Coltwood grips with reinforcing rings. Blued magazine stamped "R" on bottom of baseplate lip for manufacture by Risdon. CONDITION: Good as arsenal refinished in a thin parkerization, retaining the majority of that finish. Slide with heavy silvering to sharp edges and reciprocating areas, with areas of fine oxidation, mostly to left side. Handling marks throughout, some silvering, including a takedown mark. Frame very good, retaining somewhat more finish than slide. Grips very good with some handling marks and abraded heads. Mechanically fine, bore with good rifling and some moderate frosting primarily towards muzzle; some fine areas of oxidation in grooves.
