Engraved "R.G. OWEN - SAUQUOIT, N.Y. No 173" and stamped "R.J. KORNBRATH ENG". Banded front sight sweated to muzzle with a stippled ramp, brass bead front sight with flip-up moon sight. Sling eye on band sweated approximately halfway down barrel. Fabulous, tightly cut Kornbrath scrollwork borders the front sight ramp, accented by floral device on the barrel band, and continued at the barrel shank, with approximately 1" triangles of scrollwork on either side of a very clever scope block mounting system, which is engraved en suite with a low relief triangle of florals. Scope rail is a Belding & Mull and is fit with a Weaver 2.5x scope with duplex reticle. Forering is engraved with classic Kornbrath scroll and florals en suite, as is safety, shroud, and bolt handle, which is further checkered in an equatorial band. Set trigger. Bottom metal features essentially full coverage of more of Kornbrath's tight scrollwork, surrounding vignettes of a stag bust on the trigger guard, and a pair of rams in a rocky scene on the floorplate, supported with low relief florals. Well figured walnut stock with a horn forearm, modified point pattern checkering about the forearm, classic Owen arrowhead drop points, pistol grip with two panels of point pattern checkering about the wrist and a steel grip cap engraved en suite, beaded cheekpiece, sling bow stud and heraldic shield engraved "AGS" at toe line, and a checkered buttplate with floral motifs. CONDITION: Metal with the vast majority of the rust bluing, with thinning throughout, silvering to sharp edges and some surface mossing. Stock somewhat dry with marks from handling and the field, but solid and whole. Scope is a little hazy at the edges, but largely clear. Mechanics need some attention as safety will not engage and set trigger will not set; the bolt does not appear to be cocking fully. Bore excellent with strong rifling and some very mild frosting. A fabulous rifle by one of the top American custom makers and enhanced by arguably one of the finest engravers of all time.
