Westley Richards bolt action rifle in .375 H&H with a 24 - 1/2” barrel. Length of pull of 13 - 3/4” to a leather covered pad. The rifle sports a Prince of Wales stock with an engraved and case color hardened trapdoor grip cap, two-stage trigger on an original standard length Mauser action, two-position side safety, inside the bow floorplate release, jeweled bolt assembly, single steel recoil lug, case color hardened recoil lug screw, vacant gold oval on the toe line, raised hooded front sight with a blade and a folding moon sight, quarter rib rear sight with one standing (100 yards) and two folding (200 and 300 yards) leaves, and a beaded pancake cheek piece for a right-handed shooter. The wrist and forend are checkered with mullered borders. The receiver is drilled and tapped to accommodate a scope. No evidence that a scope has ever been mounted on the rifle. Sling swivel stud on the toe line and the other on a barrel band. The maker’s name, caliber, and serial number marked on the receiver ring. The receiver ring also reads “REGULATED FOR 300 GRN BULLET”. The barrel reads “WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO ENGLAND”. Scroll engraving adorns most parts of the rifle. A relief engraved Greater Kudu in gold inlay adorns the floorplate. Blued barreled action and furniture. Well figured walnut stock with horn forend tip and minor fiddleback. Circa 1980s rifle with Birmingham proofs. CONDITION: The rifle remains in excellent original condition. Bluing in excellent condition other than some thinning immediately forward of the quarter rib. The stock and checkering show evidence of light field use with minor impressions. Some wear at the top and bottom of the leather covered pad. The inside the bow floorplate release does not move and needs attention. Excellent chamber and bore with sharp and crisp lands. A high condition dangerous and plains game rifle by an iconic English maker. From the collection of noted African hunter and collector Richard Cousins.
