Cased Holland & Holland Royal Model De Luxe 12 bore self-opener ejector gun with two sets of barrels. Both sets of barrels measure 28”. Choked improved cylinder and modified and improved modified and full in the second set of barrels marked with gold inlaid “*” on the rib. Length of pull of 15 1/8” to checkered butt. The gun sports an English stock, double triggers on a square bar action, Holland’s hand detachable 7 pin locks, auto-safety, Southgate ejectors, plain concave game rib with a single front bead, gold inlaid “SAFE” ahead of a small button style safety catch, gold inlaid cocking indicators and serial number on the bottom strap, maker’s name on the bottom of the action on both sides, diamond shaped hand, drop points, Anson push button forend release, and an initialed gold oval on the toe line. The barrels marked with a “*” has a semi-beavertail forend while the other set of barrels comes with a splinter forend. The gun is housed in the maker’s lightweight compact toe-under leather case with an outer canvas cover, striker pot with a set spare strikers, snap caps, ebony cleaning rods, brass brush, mop, and a maker’s cleaning cloth. The gun was proofed in London in 1985 with 2 ¾” chambers in both sets of barrels and completed in 1986. The barrels are marked with Holland’s “33, BRUTON STREET, LONDON” address. Engraved by the Geoffrey Casbard with floral blackleaf and game scene vignettes. Hidden in the three game scenes you can find the engraver’s initials “GLC”. Two flushing ring-necked pheasant roosters with a dog on point in the background on the right, a pair of flushing mallards on the left, and a lone woodcock on the underside. The trigger guard is embellished with a calling male bobwhite quail on a fence post. Both action and furniture in silver finish. Stocked with a lighter colored walnut with a lot of figure. CONDITION: Near new and original. Bores, bluing, and metal condition remain near new. The checkering also rates at near new. The stock and forend are in excellent condition with evidence of light field use in the form of minor scratches some compression marks. The top lever is right of center and ejectors in time in both sets of barrels. Both sets of barrels are on face. From the collection of noted African hunter and collector Richard Cousins.
