According to included factory research, this rifle shipped September 6, 1890 as a takedown rifle in .45-90 with octagon barrel. Rifle currently sports a contemporary extra length 36" blued octagon barrel in .45-90 with 2-line Winchester address. Fitted with a globe front sight sans aperture and a long range tang sight, the barrel dovetail filled in with a blank. Half length magazine. Receiver displays expertly reapplied casehardening with punchdot shaded foliate scroll and engraved wave borders. Left side features a large vignette depicting a gold inlaid standing grizzly bear in Western mountain landscape. 2-piece plain walnut stocks with checkered steel widow's peak shotgun butt plate. CONDITION: Excellent as restored. Barrel and magazine tube retain nearly all of their contemporary blue with some scattered marks. Case hardening remains strong and bright. Nose cap has an original, gray patina. Forend is modern, fitting proudly to metal with only a few scant marks. Stock has been cleaned with impressions throughout. Fine, crisp bore. Fine mechanics. A handsome upgraded '86.
