Originally manufactured circa 1908, this carbine has been beautifully upgraded and engraved by Joseph of Cody, Wyoming, his signature found on the underside of the frame just ahead of the lever. The left side of the frame showcases a pair of miner vignettes, the first chipping rock in a gold mine and the other panning for gold. The gold in each scene has been highlighted with gold inlays. Each of the vignettes is pleasantly blended into a foliate scroll backdrop with deeply cut and shaded background. The right side has a large central scene of sluice gold mining, blended into a foliate scroll background with dot borders. The front of the receiver features a pair of fold bands inlaid bands with further gold geometric and scroll flourishes. The goldwork continues on the underside and rear of the receiver, with further scroll and line, as well as a gold inlayed burro on the upper tang. Light gold inlay also extends onto the breech of the barrel, which is a somewhat later mail order with "-MODEL 92-" rollmark. Barrel is fitted with a tall pinned blade front sight and ladder rear. Checkered walnut carbine forend of nice figure retained by a barrel band with light floral embellishments. Checkered straight grip walnut stock with mining tool and scroll engraved carbine butt plate. CONDITION: Excellent as fully restored and upgraded. Nearly all of the expertly reapplied blue is retained throughout with a few scattered freckles and other marks. Case colors are strong. Replacement stocks are excellent with some minor handling. Fine bright bore with crisp rifling. Mechanics are a little sticky. No magazine tube hanger pin present. A very attractive and masterfully upgraded Winchester.
