Manufactured circa 1925, this very unusual 92 is built with both carbine and rifle features. Several carbines in this configuration are known with serial numbers around this example. It is believed they were made for silver screen use, possibly part of a 100 gun order placed in 1927 for a Tim McCoy film. Most notably, it features a 20" octagonal barrel chambered in .44-40. Like other known examples, it bears both standard "WP" and oval "P" proofs. Dovetailed blade front sight and ladder rear. Full length magazine tube retained by a hanger, as seen on rifles and small caliber carbines. A standard carbine barrel band present at the forend. Blued saddle ring receiver. Stocks are plain walnut with carbine butt plate. CONDITION: Near excellent. Rifle retains nearly all of its factory blue with light scratching, handling marks, and a saddle ring ghost. Fading present on magazine plug, lever, and butt plate. Stocks have some scattered impressions and light crazing. Very fine, bright and shiny bore. Crisp mechanics. An especially fine and highly unusual 92, perfect for any Winchester collection.
