The barrel is stamped "Griffin & Howe Inc. New York" and numbered 1241. The receiver bridge of the 1903 action still retains all the government stamps and dates to 1927. Griffin & Howe opened on June 1, 1923 and became world famous for their fine customs usually built on military actions, especially the Model 1903 Springfield. The barrel sports the pinned blade on ramp front sight and no rear sight but there is a pair of tapped and filled holes on barrel where rear sight would be. It is fitted to a walnut stock, hand checkered, pistol grip with cap, checkered steel butt plate, and a black horn forend tip. The right side of receiver wears a peep sight base with no stem. The barrel is fatted with a band sling eye. Rifle sports a pre-war German Voightlander scope with Stith mounts. Jeweled bolt and a trigger shoe. CONDITION: Excellent. Metal retains about 85% blue with some light age freckling and strong legends. The trigger guard and floorplate retain about half their blue. Stock is excellent with sharp checkering and minor small impressions. Mechanically sound. M.E. measures less than 1. Bore is bright with minor abrasion.
