Dates to 1925. Top of barrel is stamped "MADE FOR HOFFMAN ARMS CO." The "Made For" is in larger font than "Hoffman". Hoffman Arms was formed in Cleveland in 1923 but were bought out and moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1925, beforing closing in 1930. Frank, like his noted contemporaries such as R.G. Owen, Fred Adolph, R.F. Sedgley, and Griffin & Howe, were noted custom gun makers of this golden era and he was in their class of the best of the best. This gun's deluxe features include walnut stocks with pistol grip, H style checkering, Winchester grip cap and a checkered horn butt plate. The frame features a running deer scene vignette on left side with gold line circle and frame border filled with scroll decoration. This design is seen on page 269-270 in the Winchester engraving book. The right side is similarly engraved featuring a fox in woods scene. Top of frame features a boar vignette. You will also find scroll engraving on trigger guard and nose cap. Both ends of barrel wear gold bands. Standard features include a dovetailed front sight, special barrel with no rear sight cut and sporting a tang sight. CONDITION: Excellent. Metal retains nearly all its custom finish with minor handling marks. Stock is excellent with scattered impressions, sharp checkering but has darkened. Mechanically sound. Bore is well defined but frosted. Beautiful rifle.
