Per the included Cody letter, this shotgun originally shipped as a Skeet grade 20 gauge, was received in the warehouse November 23rd, 1936, shipped November 27th, 1936, to C.M. Cooke, was subject to Return & Repair October 8th, 1947, and was subject again February 16th 1951, for an extra set of barrels. It has since been upgraded to a Grand American grade; given the Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company legends on the forearm loop of the barrels, it appears that they also performed the upgrade. Barrels all with dovetailed chopper lumps, Bradley style white bead front sights and metal mid beads on matted solid concave ribs, engraved with 2 - 1/2" triangles of Acanthus scroll over the chambers. Rib with an open vignette that reads "CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER". Barrel flats with gauge and chamber designations, proofs, and marked with choke designations and "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL" on tubes ahead of flats. Forearm loops marked as aforementioned. The 28 gauge barrel set has had the chambers lengthened to 3" and the choke in the right barrel opened up; the 20 bore has also had the right barrel opened up. Beavertail forearm with ebony insert, B pattern checkering about rolling releases, with scrollwork on exterior iron. Both forearms are numbered on interior iron and in wood, and further denoted "1" and "3". Boxlock action engraved in the classic 21-6 pattern with scrollwork and shell borders, with vignettes of a golden pointer on either side and a pair of partridge on underside. Gold washed single trigger with push-button selector mounted to bow, with a trigger guard engraved en suite with portrait of a pointer. Jeweled action flats with Winchester legends and patents. Automatic safety with "SAFE" ahead of slide. Richly figured feather crotch walnut stock with straight grip, checkered in the B pattern, with a checkered butt and brass oval at toeline. CONDITION: Barrels with nearly all of their CSMC bluing, with some handling marks and rubs throughout, some thinning to sharp edges and muzzles, and some scattered mottling. Some oxidation to barrel flats of the .410 and 28 bore barrel sets. Forearms good with some scattered handling marks and impressions, "3" with a long repaired sliver approximately 3 - 1/4" on right side. Buttstock with scattered handling marks and impressions, but was shattered at one point, with a repair that runs all the way around the circumference stock. Mechanically a little loose, lever is over to the left, bores with mild oxidation and firing residue. Ejectors strong and in time for "3", in time but soft for forearm "1"; "3" will not latch to barrels.
