Fantastic August Schuler 20 bore over and under ejector game gun with 29 ½” barrels. The gun is choked full in both barrels. Length of pull of 14 - 1/4” to a black basketweave pattern plastic plate. The gun has a unique locking mechanism, having a variation on the crossbolt with two bites called “HERKULES” by the maker. These are in addition to the two underbites giving this gun four bites! Prince of Wales stock with starburst pattern horn grip cap, double triggers, safety catch appears to be pinned, pin style cocking indicators on the top strap on either side of the top lever, matted vent rib with white front and mid beads, maker’s name on the barrels, horn inlay in place of drop points, checkered wrist, and a checkered slender game style forend with a Deeley release. The gun bears German nitro proof marks and was proofed in September of 1924 with 3”/76 mm chambers. Floral scroll and black leaf engraving set with low relief engraved game scene vignettes on both sides. Pheasants on the right and ducks on the left side. Case color hardened action and furniture. Walnut stock and forend with some figure. CONDITION: Excellent as original. Some frosting in the bores, mostly in the top barrel. Barrel bluing rates particularly good with some wear consistent with age. About 30% case colors remain on the action. Stock, forend, and associated checkering rate excellent with very minor wear. Top lever slightly left of center, barrels on face, and ejectors in time. A chance to own a high condition time capsule with the seldom seen “Herkules” locking mechanism from a top-notch German maker known for high quality and rifles and shotguns.
