In 1815, 2,000 of the Pattern 1805 Baker rifles were modified to accept a triangular socket bayonet and the sword bayonet bar on the right side was removed and the stock cut back. A lug was then added on the underside. This rifle is of standard 1805 configuration with the mentioned 1815 improvements. The round barrel has British Tower proofs on the left side towards the breech. The notched rear sight has an additional folding leaf for longer distances. Standard brass Pattern 1805 furniture including two-piece patchbox and an oval wrist escutcheon marled "14". The flat lockplate has beveled edges and is marked "TOWER" at the tail and is engraved with a large British crown over "GR" in the center. Below the pan is a stamped crown and broad arrow, denoting British government ownership. The walnut stock features a large oval-shaped relief-carved cheekpiece. The steel ramrod is a modern replacement. CONDITION: Barrel retains a mottled brown patina. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration with excellent markings, functions properly. Deep rifling. Brass polished bright and shows some scratches and marks from use. Stock shows scattered denting and marks from use.
