Circa 1830s-40s production by Henry Deringer of Philadelphia as signed "DERINGER / PHILADELA" on breeches and locks. Barrels are finished in characteristic lightning bolt pattern browning with deluxe tendril engraving. Gold plated blade front sights and inlaid gold bands at the breeches. Engraved back action percussion locks. Checkered walnut stocks of bird's head form with gilt mounts. The escutcheons are inscribed "To / BHF / From / L.E.B." This lovely pair is housed in a period French fitted leatherette case with flask, cap box, mold, and tools. CONDITION: Excellent. Barrel browning displays defined patterning with some fading. Locks have largely drifted to gray patina. Virtually all of the bright gilt is retained on the mounts. Stocks have a few scattered impressions. Gun B has a small split running from the side plate to the barrel. Checkering remains sharp. Strong bores. Fine mechanics. Case is very good with an older repair at the hinge. A very handsome set that displays exceedingly well.
