Among the first pistols produced by Henry Deringer, 510 were acquired by the State of Maryland during the War of 1812. The form is rather similar to a US Model 1808. It is fitted with a plain, unproofed barrel with dovetailed brass blade front sight. Lockplate marked "H. DERINGER / PHILA". Walnut stock with brass mounts including a pair of pipes for the ramrod. Left flat is stamped "HM" for Henry Murry, Maryland Armorer. Pistol is accompanied by a collection card from the Mead Patterson Collection indicating it was purchased from Miller Bedford in 1948 for the grad sum of $270. CONDITION: Very good. Iron displays a pleasant brown/gray patina with some cleaned oxidation spotting. Brass has mellowed. Stocks have an added coat of finish and scattered light impressions. A split present running from the rear ramrod pipe. Dark bore. Crisp mechanics. A very scarce arm with as little as 25 examples known.
