Manufactured circa 1948 and subsequently masterfully upgraded by renowned engraver Anglo Bee, as signed "A.BEE" followed by his famed bumble bee device on main engraving panel on the left side of the receiver. The signed scene shows a pair of mounted Braves armed with bow and spear hunting buffalo. Figures in the scene are inlaid in silver with portions gold washed for a polychrome effect. The background is a South Western mountain landscape banded with a gold border. The remainder of the left side is filled with extensive, deeply cut arabesque foliate scroll. The right side of the receiver has a captivating gold inlayed stage coach pulled by a 6 horse team rushing through a Western landscape with gold wire border. Further scroll and gold borders fill remaking portions of the receiver with a gold washed, silver inlaid Indian bust profile based on James Earl Fraser's famous buffalo nickel. The scroll and gold linework extend onto the barrel extension and barrel breech, with further flourishes and a pair of gold bands at the muzzle. Barrel has a solid rib with single bead sight. Bolt and carrier have been jeweled. Finely figured diamond checkered walnut slide and pistol grip stock with WRACO grip cap and checkered plastic butt plate. Includes hang tag. CONDITION: Excellent as embellished. Nearly all of the expertly reapplied blue is retained with some scattered freckles. Gold wash shows light wear. Stocks are very fine with light handling marks. Bright bore. Fine mechanics. A fabulous small bore Winchester upgraded by one of the best with great Western motifs to boot. It would not take much to imagine Roy Rogers or John Wayne skeet shooting in the Hollywood Hills with such a gun!
