There is a letter, dated 1971, from John Winslow explaining that there is a delay in the special order carving of this rifle due to a prolonged illness of their carver. Founded in 1963 and located in Osprey Florida, Winslow Arms built custom rifles in Florida until 1975 where they became fairly well regarded for producing quality, and oft times, highly ornate custom sporting rifles. The pre-1964, pre-zip code catalog lists this as a Royal Grade with no engraving but the wood work is exquisite of which this example is so adorned. Standard features include the high polish blue finish, no rifle sights, jeweled bolt, a walnut stock with contrasting rosewood grip cap and forearm tip. The stock features a stylized Monte Carlo comb, a Pachmayr waffle pad, and sling eyes. Rifle sports a Redfield variable scope. It is the wood work that is the most elaborate aspect of this rifle. These were hand carved by special order by one man as evidenced that company could not ship until their master carver was over his illness. It is a combination of both basketweave and flowing oak leaves covering the stock, pistol grip and forearm. Both sides of forearm feature ebony and ivory diamond inlays similar to Weatherby. The right side of stock features a 2x4" ivory overlay on ebony form of a grizzly with a fish. There is a scrimshaw makers monogram in ivory at base. CONDITION: Excellent Retains nearly all its original finish with very minor handling marks. Mechanically sound. Bore is bright.
