Serial number lists date at 1942. According to "The Rifleman's Rifle" page 245, Winchester tracked the pre-War Type 1 rifle receiver serial numbers and recorded 13,283 as non standard items. Given that Winchester would make virtually anything on special order, we will never know how many calibers were made for the Model 70. Also, the Golden Age for cartridge wildcatters existed from 1920 through the 1950s so the interest in cartridges and their rifles was in its heyday. This rifle has the caliber ".25-35" stamped under the barrel with "41" date; no other marks. "PW" is stamped on left side of barrel and frame. The Winchester legend on barrel is shown on page 114. The caliber is stamped ".25-35 WCF"; WCF was being phased out in 1938. The bolt has matching serial number etching. Standard features include blue finish, hooded ramp front sight, folding single leaf rear sight, a walnut stock, checkered pistol grip, straight comb, checkered steel butt plate with swivels. Rifle sports a Weaver K6 scope with Redfield mounts. CONDITION: Excellent. With note to a few handling marks, metal retains nearly all of its blue finish. Stock is excellent with very minor impressions. Mechanically sound. Bore is bright.
