Sheffield made silver handled knife for the American market featuring a fantastic, hand engraved federal eagle and shield with the eagle clutching a banner reading: "E. PLURIBUS UNUM". Elegant construction overall, it measures nearly 18" overall with a 12" spear point blade with false edge, maker mark near top of spine with the "star and Maltese cross" trademark and the Rodgers & Sons address in two lines on one side. This exact knife is pictured in "The Antique Bowie Knife Book" by Adams, Voyle, and Moss on pg. 399, and 398 describes the knife as a knife intended to capture the American audience for bowies. CONDITION: Very good with typical polishing and scattered freckling to blade. No visible rust or nicks to the cutting edge.
