Built in 1970. There is a letter from Hank William Jr's secretary, Wanda Crouch, dated 1990. Apparently, this revolver was offered for sale to Hank, where on he relates his disappointment that this gifted revolver was for sale and he had no interest in buying it back. Wanda also writes that the gun was engraved by Big Bill Lister of Boerne Texas. There is another letter dated 1982 thanking a Mr. Tobias for his purchase of this revolver. This letter states that Hank Williams Jr had gifted this revolver to Toy Caldwell of the Marshal Tucker band for playing on some tracks on one of his albums. This letter lists the serial number, caliber, and barrel length. There is also mention of a holster which is no longer present. Toy Caldwell was one of the founders of the Marshall Tucker band and its major song writer, the man who wrote the bands most famous song "Can't You See". In 1975, Hank Williams Jr. recorded this song for his album titled "Hank Williams Jr. and Friends in which Toy played this song. It was obviously the reason he was given this gift. Toy died in 1993 but The Marshall Tucker band, along with the Allman Brothers, were one of the most influential southern rock bands of all time but, incredibly, they are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The gun itself is outstanding. It exhibits nearly full coverage of class A engraving, all of which is in the classic American Bank Note scroll with punch dot back ground, nickel finish, fire blue small parts, and a fantastic set of one piece ivory grips. The engraver, Big Bill Lister, a noted master, began his career in the county music business in the late 1930s. He recorded for Capitol Records, was a regular on the Grand Ole Opry, and traveled the country as Hank Williams Sr. opening act, which further ties him to the Hank Williams family. Bill's given name was Weldon and his son, Weldon Jr., followed in his fathers footsteps and since the 1970s has become one of the most respected engravers of the era. CONDITION: Excellent. Shows as near new with only light handling marks and no signs of having been fired. Mechanically sound with a bright bore. "WEL" initials for Weldon Lister Sr. stamped next to the cylinder pin on flat. An incredible firearm with tremendous southern music history. Comes in case.
