An excellent example of a Vietnam War carried Randall Model 14 Attack. The knife was carried by Lt. Col. Grayson C. Woodbury Jr., who graduated as part of the West Point Military Academy class of 1954. Due to his fluency in French, Woodbury was sent to Vietnam in 1955 with several of his classmates, one of which recalled "we were recruited into the CIA." After his first year in Vietnam, Woodbury served throughout Europe, later returning to Vietnam in 1965 after graduating the Command and General Staff College, where he served with the Military Assistance Advisory Group. He would later serve in Cambodia, as a French Instructor at West Point, and as a Military Attache to the US Embassy in Tunisia. Woodbury's Model 14 Attack features a carbon steel blade with high hump marked "RANDALL MADE / SOLINGEN" on the obverse cheek. Heavy squared brass guard with patina. One-piece finger grooved brown micarta grip with integral lanyard loop. The knife is complete with its Johnson made scabbard marked with Randall's football logo on the belt loop. The roughback scabbard exhibits wear and blemishes from service use. Large rivets remain firmly secured to the scabbard. Leather is supple. Hone present in pouch. The lot also includes Woodbury's 1954 West Point class ring that is marked "14K" and engraved "Grayson C. Woodbury Jr." in elegant script. The lot is accompanied by a folder of research including four negatives which were used to produce modern copies of photos that show Woodbury in country during his service. At least one photo shows him wearing this knife on his belt and another photo shows him wearing his class ring. The photos date to his time in Vietnam during the mid-1960s. The knife exhibits and older cleaning with gray patina, which is understandable considering its use during the war. A great knife with wartime history and a must have for a Randall or fighting knife collector. CONDITION: Good.
