Per the included Cody letter, this gun shipped as a 26" 20 gauge with vent rib, non-automatic safety, single trigger, pistol grip stock, checkered butt, 14" LOP, 2 - 1/2" DAH, 1 - 9/16" DAC. It was made for W. Bingham Company, and shipped January 10th, 1947 after an inspection that started January 8th. Classic dovetailed chopper lump barrels with a vacant Bradley style front sight and a depressed mid bead on a matted vent rib. 2" triangles of finely cut acanthus scrollwork over chambers, left tube with Winchester designations for a 20 gauge with 2 - 3/4" chambers, underside of tubes with "Winchester Proof Steel" marks, WS-1 and WS-2 choke codes, encircled "PW" and subinspector marks. Beavertail forearm with modified point pattern checkering about a rolling release, exterior of iron engraved with geometrics and acanthus scrollwork. Interior iron with matching serial number on both iron and wood. Boxlock action with typical Winchester legends and patent information, engraved with nearly full coverage of tightly cut scrollwork, with floral dressed hingepins and a pair of relief gold partridge flitting through a meadow scene. Marked "SKEET" ahead of trigger guard, and signed "ENGR. BY A. GRIEBEL" in an arc ahead of trigger guard. Gold washed single trigger with push-button selector mounted to bow. Non-automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold ahead of slide. Well figured walnut stock, probably period replaced, with checkered sidepanels, two panels of point pattern checkering about the pistol grip wrist, fluted comb nose, and a Winchester rubber recoil pad. CONDITION: Barrels with the vast majority of their newer bluing, starting to plum somewhat, with some scattered handling marks and thinning. Some silvering to muzzles and where forearm contacts barrels. Forearm very good, somewhat dry, with some scattered handling marks and impressions. Action excellent with some minor surface mossing, mostly in recesses. Stock with heavy rubs to sharp edges and handling marks throughout. Some heavy dings and impressions, one long thin gouge, approximately 1/2" long, at comb. Mechanically fine, barrels a little off face, bores excellent with some firing residue. Ejectors are soft but in time. Right choke has been opened up.
