From 1913 to 1915, Colt assembled Single Action Army revolvers utilizing left over 1878 DA revolver cylinders. Less than 1,500 were built with these "long flute" cylinders, the cylinder flutes extending past the cylinder stops unlike standard SAA production. This example shipped February 24, 1915 in a shipment of 6 to A. Steinfeld & Company of Tucson, Arizona. Although not in the standard range for the long flute production, an included 1983 John Kopec letter indicates that he believed the gun to be original, listing another known "out of range" long flute also assembled in February of 1915. The blued barrel is roll marked with 2-iine address and fitted with a blade front sight. Case hardened frame stamped on the left with 2-line address and rampant Colt. Blued trigger guard has "VP" proof. Grips are correct style replacement checkered hard rubber with rampant Colt logos, the right grip with an illegible serial number on the inside. Included factory letter confirms configuration, stocks unlisted. CONDITION: Good. Traces of factory blue retained in the protected areas, the balance faded to a soft gray patina. Cylinder displays factory blue in the flutes. Frame has a few flashes of color, although has largely faded to patterning. Grips are very fine although fit somewhat shy to metal. Some light handling marks present. Crisp, bright bore with some minor spotting. Fine mechanics.
