Per the included Colt letter, this revolver shipped as a 5 - 1/2" .45 Colt with blued finish and rubber grips to R.J. Brady, address unavailable, on December 7th, 1925, in a shipment of 1 gun. Some included research from Ron Ogan indicates that Tom Brady is the same Tom Brady that was a Texas Ranger in 1923. He served under Captain W.L. Wright in Company D, before working in the U.S. Mounted Customs service along the Mexican border, primarily chasing liquor smugglers, and eventually was elected sheriff of Dimmit County, Carrizo Springs. The revolver is engraved on the butt "R.J.B. to Tom / 12-25-25", presumably, R.J. gave the gun to Tom as a Christmas gift. Classic configuration of a Single Action Army with blade front sight, frame notch rear sight, kidney shaped ejector rod head, case colored frame with balance blued, single line Colt address across top of barrel, caliber designation of left side of barrel, frame with two line patent information and Rampant Colt, matching serial numbers on frame, trigger guard, and backstrap, under grips. Hard rubber grips with embossed Rampant Colts at wrist. Ron Ogan's letter recounts that he acquired the gun in trade, and was told that the gun was originally acquired from a Texan family circa 1940, who used it as partial payment for house work. The person who acquired it said that he was not interested by the inscription and never investigated. When Ogan acquired it, he reached out to the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and showed it to the curator, who apparently opined that it was the same Brady, and helped Ogan acquire Brady's Oath of Service and Enlistment papers, both of which are included. Additionally, there are some scans out of books relating some history on Brady and his photo. CONDITION: With the majority of the bluing on barrel with some handling marks throughout, some silvering, and thinning, primarily to muzzle. Ejector rod housing commensurate with heavy thinning to outside of housing consistent with holster wear. Frame with approximately 20% of the case colors, mostly retained in protected areas. Grips are very good, left grip has a chip in left toe, approximately 1/2". Mechanically fine, bore with strong rifling and some moderate frosting. Engraving is crisp, and appears to have been cut by a jeweler. An interesting Colt with relation to one of the key Texas Rangers who fought the "tequileros".
