This is an Anderson manufactured reproduction of the Model of 1874 Gatling “Camel” gun. The “Camel” gun was a Gatling gun with shorter (18”) barrels, and overall length of 35” which lightened the gun to the point where it could be more easily transported on a camel. More importantly, it took fewer men to set it up to fire, and to move it when required. This is quite an early specimen of an Anderson reproduction, from back in the time when these were so faithfully reproduced that there was at least one occasion when a reproduction was passed off as an original to a prospective buyer. The one positive difference is that the materials used are superior so that shooting modern smokeless ammunition is perfectly fine. This gun has an attractive brass casing with a faithfully reproduced plaque indicating a series of patent dates, and with the caliber “Cal .45” engraved on the casing below the plaque. The gun serial number is on the right steel rail which runs parallel to the boreline of the barrels. Each barrel and corresponding bolt are numbered. The cartridges are fed into the gun through a “Bruce” feed system, which is vertical slots at the top of the gun utilizing gravity for the cartridges to drop into the feedway. There are 25 dummy cartridges with no powder nor live primer included with the lot. Also included is an attractive “Armory Stand” or tripod which measures 46” long when the legs are folded. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent deep lustrous blue finish on steel parts with brass just starting to patina. The bores are extremely fine to near excellent, shiny and bright. Bolts are extremely fine to near excellent with good firing pins. The stand is also near excellent. Mechanics are crisp and smooth. This gun presents exceptionally well and will make a great display whether in a private home or an office. The Anderson Gatling guns seldom surface for sale because the workmanship is so exact and superb their owners just love admiring them, and having them admired by others. JWK 2025-09-209.
