Found in the 10000-12000 serial number range, the Colt London Agency sold approximately 2000 Model 1855 revolving carbines in the early 1860s. British crown "P" and crown "V" proofs present at the breech and in the cylinder flutes. The blued barrel is fitted with a brass blade front sight and 3 position rear sight graduated for 100, 300, and 600 yards. Blued carbine frame with saddle ring and Hartford address. Oiled walnut stock mounted with a brass trigger guard and crescent butt plate. Matching numbers observed on the barrel, frame, tang, and butt plate. CONDITION: Excellent. Approximately 80-90% factory blue. Barrel has a few minor spots of loss. Top strap and tang have largely faded to gray patina, with areas of thinning and freckling. Hammer retains traces of finish, the balance patina. Muted case colors displayed on the loading lever. Brass has a golden, aged patina with a few age spots. Stock remains proud with raised grain and a few light impressions. Crisp mirror bore with a few cleaned oxidation spots. Fine mechanics. A fantastic example of a rare Colt carbine.
