School: British Trade Fusil. Circa 1800 to 1820. Overall length: 54 – ½”. Caliber: .65. Barrel length: 39 – ½” (original). Octagon to round barrel. Flintlock mechanism. This commercial “Brown Bess” was made for the Hudson Bay Co. as evidenced by the Birmingham proofs and the “Tombstone Fox” markings on the octagonal to round barrel. The Ketland (original flintlock marked T. Ketland & Co.) Company produced firearms for the Hudson Bay Co. in the early 19th century. This piece has its original varnish and has no repairs or restoration.
