Circa 1630. Italian or German. Black and white style decoration. Helmet and neck defenses are blackened with deeply incised border line enhancement; white bands to the edges of the piece. Helmet has a two piece skull with a very low comb and a two-piece visor. Original rivets with remnants of leather. Small period restoration to split at the bottom of the comb on the front of the skull. One five-inch period patch to rear base of the skull at the edge of the neck defense. Both restorations are beautifully done, absolutely “of the period”. Nice early turned borders. Surface of the helmet is in fine condition with some minor pitting. Some fresh rust is present but can be easily cleaned. Majority of the blackened finish is still present.
Condition: (Excellent).
