School: Juniata/Huntington County. Circa 1840 to 1860. Overall length: 54”. Barrel length: 38”. Over and under octagonal barrel and octagon to round barrel. Percussion mechanism. Oval patchbox. No carvings and no inlays. This “over and under” rifle has a full octagon rifled barrel and a octagon to round barrel for either “shot” or “buck and ball”. Along with the other pieces, this too is in “as found” condition with excellent patination, especially on the curly maple stock and the brass mountings. The German silver inlay on the cheek piece is engraved with the owner’s initials “G.W.H.”.
